Right now for speed it shows a magnitude.
Instead, it could be a 2d graph with a dot for direction and magnitude? Origin being 0 mp/h of course.

Perhaps. I'm just not sure how it would deal with highly different speed (i.e. you need to be able to see the difference between 0 km/s and 10 km/s, while going 1000 has to stay on screen). A possible solution would be to make it logarithmic.

For the meanwhile, if you like to see where you are going, there is a hidden arrow that does just that, it can be activated by typing
