Garry Pettet

Hi, I’m Garry — a consultant radiologist and indie software developer.

I build software for people who like tools they can understand: visual development environments, small languages, desktop apps, developer utilities, and the occasional odd-but-useful side project.

These days all of my development energy goes into Objo Studio, a friendly, visual cross-platform environment for building desktop apps.

Objo Studio

Objo Studio is my attempt to make desktop app development feel approachable again.

It combines:

  • a visual user interface designer
  • a readable, BASIC-inspired language
  • a stack-based virtual machine
  • a modern .NET/Avalonia app runtime
  • integrated debugging and project tooling
  • a focus on hobbyists, learners, indie developers, and people who miss the immediacy of classic VB-like tools

Objo Studio is not trying to be another heavyweight professional stack. It is for people who want to build real apps without first adopting the entire modern software industry as a lifestyle.

About my Xojo repos

A lot of my older public repositories here are Xojo-related.

That is intentional.

I spent years building with and for Xojo. These projects are historical now, but they are part of the path that led to Objo Studio.

They remain here as a record of that work, and because some of them may still be useful to other Xojo developers.

What you’ll find here

This account is mostly for my personal and historical open-source work:

  • older Xojo projects
  • language and tooling experiments
  • small utilities
  • prototypes
  • occasional examples and demos

The public-facing Objo ecosystem projects will increasingly live under the ObjoStudio organisation and on the main Objo Studio website.

Things I’m interested in

  • visual development tools
  • desktop app development
  • language design
  • virtual machines
  • approachable programming environments
  • developer experience
  • small, understandable systems
  • software that helps people make things
