This is below the TCP/socket layer, but may be useful for forging connections because if you are trying to mimic the behavior of an arbitrary host, the ttl of the packets sent from that host are an important thing to mimic
for ordinary sockets, this will always be -1 (for "use the default value") but if we've set the ttl to something other than the default, this lets us fetch it.
change the ttl to 88, and see if it sticks
