[Due for payment 2026-06-09] [$250] update "Select all" behavior in NewDot to reflect OldDot UI dropdown

Problem

• in OldDot, we solve the issue of truly selecting all expenses without needing to scroll down and load the remaining expenses by providing the "Select All" option (see screenshot)

• in NewDot, users need to scroll down (perhaps even multiple times), then deselect the "Select All" checkbox and reselect in order to truly select all expenses (only "Export" option appears). there is the "Select all matching items" option, but it has been difficult to discover and deviates from the expected behavior from OldDot.

Proposed Solution

• per this slack thread, update NewDot UI for "Select all" so that it matches the dropdown experience in OldDot

It's a bit weird how now you have to unselect or click select all again to get Select all, but I think that makes sense in this world instead of leaving the link there and having two ways to select all.

Also, can we accurately say how many are selected when selecting all? In OldDot we do a loading state then show exactly how many items are selected, but on NewDot we now just say "All matching items":

Yeah and I noticed that when you do this, the footer doesn't update with the new expense count either...

On OldDot, the second you click on the select all checkbox, it defaults to selecting all expenses but shows the dropdown. Do you think we should do the same here?

Yeah I noticed this when we were talking about it in Slack. I think it's pretty annoying/confusing haha. I'd rather just go with Jon's mocks until everyone complains that it's too many clicks. (Also, that weird behavior is one of the reasons why we went the route we did initially.)

It isn't really too many clicks as you'll have to click outside to get the popover to disappear anyways. I'm with y'all that we shouldn't select and also ask the question of what to select. I found that weird.
